    Marinernine - Iceberg (1991 - 1998)

You're only young once. For Marinernine, four helplessly ernest young guys who grew up outside of Philadelphia in the 1990s, they lived what was essentially the final 8 years of their youth as outwardly as kids could do it back then - in an indie rock band that wanted to be famous.

The group was made up of David Boyd, Brian McTear, Jason Knight and Matt Neal. They started in 1991 with the name Mother's Garden in high-school (The Hill School, a private boarding school in Pottstown Pennsylvania), a name they carried with them to college at West Chester University, before coming to their senses and changing it in 1994. Eventually they moved to Philadelphia in 1996, a city in a desperate state at the time, both economically and musically, but for them, it was an easy playground.

Iceberg, the three volume set of mostly unreleased, self-recorded music from Marinernine includes over twenty songs from the day. Recorded mostly by McTear and Knight, who together founded and built Miner Street Recordings - to this day a premiere Philadelphia recording studio run by McTear. Iceberg captures every possible high and low moment of 4 kids growing up emotionally and artistically - some great songs and worthy experimentations including lot's of noise and talking in the background. Simply put, in the eight years they were together there was never a moment where they didn't love each other absolutely and unconditionally, a rare story in music for sure. Though, perhaps this is really just a story about friends.

Mastered by Ryan Schwabe at Maniac Mansion Masters, Philadelphia.
